Irregular Periods in Teenagers: Causes & When to See a Doctor
It is normal for a 17-year-old to have irregular periods for the first few years after they start menstruating. This is because the body is still developing and the hormones that control the menstrual cycle are still fluctuating.
However, if your periods stop for more than 3 months, or if they are very heavy or painful, it is important to see a doctor to rule out any underlying medical conditions.
Some possible causes of irregular periods in 17-year-olds include:
* Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)
* Thyroid problems
* Eating disorders
* Stress
* Obesity
* Diabetes
