How to Adjust the Brakes on Nova Walkers
Some Nova walkers feature hand brakes that aid users in walking down an incline, thus controlling the speed of pace. Nova pre-sets the hand brakes to a specific tension. After extensive use, however, the tension cable will stretch slightly and require adjustments.Things You'll Need
- Adjustable pliers
Instructions
Standing behind the walker, unlock the handbrakes on both the left and right handles by pulling the handles up to the grips.
Grasp the locking nut on the right brake with adjustable pliers. Turn the nut counterclockwise to loosen it. This is the locking nut just in front of the brake-handle housing.
Turn the tension adjustment screw in front of the locking nut to adjust the brakes. Turn the screw clockwise to tighten the brake, or counterclockwise to loosen the brake. Make one turn in either direction, and count the turns.
Squeeze the brake and try to push the walker forward to test the adjustment. Turn the locking nut clockwise to tighten it after making adjustments.
Repeat this process to adjust the left brake in the same amount of turns in the same direction.
