Path to Certification: Medical Sonography Education & Clinical Training
Step 1: Education
* You must earn an associate degree from an accredited institution
* Courses include topics covering human anatomy and physiology, sonographic instrumentation, sonographic principles of physics, pathology and sectional anatomy sonography and clinical training
Step 2: Internship and Clinical Education
* You must have completed a supervised clinical education under the direct supervision of a qualified RDMS Sonographer, or a Physician. An average of 12 month supervised training is required prior to sitting for your board exams with ARDMS (American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography)
Step 3: Credentialing Exam with RDMS
* Pass all exams for your specialty - abdomen, adult echocardiography, obstetrics and gynecology or vascular- for either Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT)
* Or
* Registered Sonographer (RDMS) through the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography
