Healthy BMI for Men: Understanding Body Mass Index (BMI)
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), a healthy BMI for men is between 18.5 and 24.9. Body Mass Index (BMI) is a measure of body fat based on height and weight.BMI can be calculated using the following formula:
BMI = weight (in pounds) x 703/height (in inches) x height (in inches).
A BMI below 18.5 is considered underweight, while a BMI between 25 and 29.9 is considered overweight. A BMI of 30 or higher is considered obese.
Men with a BMI in the healthy range have a lower risk of developing obesity-related health problems, such as heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, and some types of cancer.
