Meningitis: Understanding Inflammation of the Brain & Spinal Cord Layers
The swelling of meninges is called meningitis. Meninges are the protective layers that surround the brain and spinal cord. They consist of three layers: dura mater, arachnoid mater, and pia mater. When these layers become inflamed, it can lead to meningitis. Meningitis can be caused by a variety of factors, including infections, autoimmune disorders, and certain medications. Symptoms of meningitis can include fever, headache, stiff neck, nausea, vomiting, confusion, and seizures. Treatment for meningitis depends on the underlying cause and may include antibiotics, corticosteroids, and supportive care.Men's Health - Related Articles
