Natural Ways to Lower Estrogen Levels in Men: Diet & Lifestyle
When a man's estrogen levels rise over their natural balance, this can cause unpleasant side effects. Weight gain, breast enlargement and a decreased sex drive are all symptoms of an excess of estrogen. Estrogen can be produced by fatty tissue in the body, which metabolizes naturally-produced testosterone and changes it to estrogen. Lowering excess estrogen levels naturally can be done through lifestyle changes and careful diet monitoring.Things You'll Need
- Multi-vitamin with zinc
Instructions
Avoid an excess of soy. The isoflavones contained in soy help raise levels of estrogen in the body and work to lower testosterone. Soy-based foods should be avoided; this includes soy milk, tofu and other soy products.
Exercise. Reducing fatty tissue can slow the metabolization of testosterone into estrogen. Studies performed by Anne McTiernan at Fred Hutchinson's Prevention Studies Clinic show that exercise significantly lowered estriadol levels in men.
Start taking a multi-vitamin that contains zinc. Zinc has been shown to help slow testosterone being converted to estrogen. Antioxidants are also shown to reduce the amount of testosterone that is converted.
