Pregnancy Test Timing: When Can You Get an Accurate Result?
It depends on the method you use to test for pregnancy.
Home pregnancy tests: Most home pregnancy tests can detect pregnancy 10-14 days after ovulation. Ovulation occurs about 14 days before the start of your period. So, if you have a regular 28-day cycle, you can take a home pregnancy test about a week after you miss your period.
Blood pregnancy tests: Blood pregnancy tests can detect pregnancy earlier than home pregnancy tests, about 6-10 days after ovulation. Blood pregnancy tests are used in doctor's offices and laboratories.
If you think you might be pregnant, it's a good idea to take a pregnancy test to confirm, even if your period is only short a few days late. If you get a negative result but still think you might be pregnant, you can retest in a few days.
