Pap Smear & Pregnancy: What You Need to Know
A pap smear test is not designed to determine pregnancy. It is a screening test used to detect abnormal cells on the cervix, the opening to the uterus. Therefore, it cannot detect the presence of pregnancy.
Pregnancy is determined through different methods, such as a blood or urine test that detects the presence of the pregnancy hormone human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) or through an ultrasound examination that visualizes the developing fetus in the uterus.
