Cystic Fibrosis & Maternal Age: Understanding the Risks

Cystic fibrosis is an autosomal recessive genetic disorder, which means that both parents must carry the defective gene in order for a child to be affected. The likelihood of having a child with cystic fibrosis is not directly related to the age of the mother. However, it's worth noting that with advancing maternal age, the risk of having a child with certain chromosomal abnormalities (such as Down syndrome) slightly increases. But this is not specifically related to cystic fibrosis.
