Is dextrose harmful when pregnant?
Dextrose, also known as glucose, is a simple sugar that is the body's primary source of energy. It is found naturally in fruits, vegetables, and grains, and is also used as a sweetener in processed foods and beverages.
Dextrose is generally considered safe for consumption during pregnancy. However, some studies have suggested that excessive intake of sugar, including dextrose, may increase the risk of gestational diabetes, macrosomia (excessive birth weight), and other pregnancy complications.
Therefore, it is important for pregnant women to limit their intake of added sugars, including dextrose, and focus on consuming a balanced diet that includes plenty of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. If you have any concerns about your sugar intake during pregnancy, be sure to talk to your doctor.
