First Pregnancy Length: Understanding the 40-Week Gestation
On average, a first pregnancy lasts for around 40 weeks from the first day of your last menstrual period (LMP) to the day you give birth. This is divided into three trimesters:
1. First trimester (weeks 1-12)
During the first trimester, your body goes through major changes as your baby starts to grow and develop. Some common symptoms of the first trimester include fatigue, nausea, vomiting, breast tenderness, and frequent urination.
2. Second trimester (weeks 13-28)
The second trimester is often seen as the easiest phase of pregnancy as most of the uncomfortable symptoms of the first trimester start to fade away. Your baby will start to grow rapidly and may start to move or kick.
3. Third trimester (weeks 29-40)
The third trimester is the final stretch of pregnancy and your baby will put on most of its weight during this time. As your baby grows, you may start to experience some new symptoms like swelling, heartburn, and difficulty sleeping.
