DIY Ice Pack: Easy Homemade Ice Wrap Recipe
While commercial ice wraps are convenient to use, they can also be expensive. In addition, you may need one when one is not readily available to you. If cost is a concern or you need one and cannot get to the store, you can make your own with a few products you probably have around the house.Things You'll Need
- 16 oz. water
- 16 oz. rubbing alcohol
- 1-gallon plastic resealable zipper storage bag
- Permanent marker
- Gauze
Instructions
Use a permanent marker to write on the outside of the bag, indicating its contents. One recommendation is to write "Contains water and rubbing alcohol. Keep away from children."
Pour 16 oz. water and 16 oz. rubbing alcohol into a 1-gallon plastic resealable zipper storage bag.
Seal the bag and shake the contents by moving the bag between your hands.
Place the bag into your freezer and allow the contents to freeze. The bag is ready when it has a slushy consistency. At minimum, freeze the ice pack for four to five hours, but overnight is recommended.
Wrap the affected area of your body with a few layers of gauze. Applying the ice wrap directly to your skin can cause skin damage.
Place the ice pack over the gauze covering the affected area. Bind the wrap with more gauze to hold it in place.
