Early Ovulation Signs: What to Watch For
Ovulation occurs when an egg is released from the ovary. This is the only time a woman can get pregnant, as it is the only time an egg is able to be fertilized by male sperm.-
Symptoms
-
The first sign of a woman beginning ovulation is when clear vaginal secretions appear. According to Mayo Clinic, they resemble raw egg whites. Some women may also experience slight abdominal cramps. Another sure symptom is the body's basal temperature rising.
Causes
-
The vaginal secretions and body temperature symptoms occur due to the body preparing for sperm reception. Both of these make it easier for the sperm to reach an egg and stay alive. The abdominal cramps may be due to the egg releasing itself.
Time Frame
-
According to Mayo Clinic, ovulation typically occurs 14 days after the first day of a woman's period. This may differ from woman to woman.
Testing
-
Over-the-counter ovulation kits are available to test when a woman is ovulating. These test for an increase in hormones that occurs during ovulation.
Considerations
-
After the ovulation period is over, it is unlikely that a woman will become pregnant. The basal body temperature will lower back to normal and the vaginal secretions will become cloudy.
