Reactions to the Black Death: Faith, Fear, and Blame
* Some people turned to religion and sought salvation through prayer, penance, and acts of faith. They believed that the Black Death was a punishment from God for their sins and tried to appease Him by showing their devotion.* Others reacted with fear, panic, and hysteria. They shunned those who were infected and abandoned their homes and communities in an attempt to escape the plague. Some people even resorted to violence and blamed minority groups, such as Jews, for spreading the disease.
