Straining Baby Food: Methods & Tools for Smooth Purees
There are a few ways to strain baby food. Here are three common methods:
1. Using a food mill
A food mill is a kitchen tool that consists of a hopper, a grinding plate, and a crank. To use a food mill, place the cooked food in the hopper, turn the crank to grind the food, and the strained food will come out through the holes in the grinding plate.
2. Using a fine-mesh sieve
A fine-mesh sieve is a kitchen tool that consists of a bowl and a mesh screen. To use a fine-mesh sieve, place the cooked food in the bowl and use a spoon to press the food through the mesh screen. The strained food will fall into the bowl.
3. Using a blender
A blender can be used to strain baby food by pureeing the food until it reaches the desired consistency. To use a blender, add the cooked food to the blender and blend on high speed until the food is smooth.
Once you have strained the baby food, you can store it in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or in the freezer for up to 6 months.
