How Do You Check if a Bottle Is BPA Free?
Bisphenol A, also known as BPA, is a chemical used to make plastic and resin. Because of its durability and other physical attributes, BPA is used to make a variety of products including CDs, DVDs, electronic equipment, cars and trucks, and reusable food and drink containers. In 2008, studies linked BPA with cancers and other health-related issues. Since then, health-conscious citizens have been looking for BPA-free alternatives to plastic cups and bottles.Things You'll Need
- Bottles
Instructions
Turn your bottles over onto a flat surface so the bottom is facing up. If at the store, look at the back of the packaging, or on the bottom of the bottle.
Locate the triangle formed with arrows to indicate the recycling symbol.
Check for a number "7," "07" or "PC" inside the recycling symbol - this means the bottle contains BPA. Look for bottles without this symbol and codes, or opt for glass bottles, which do not contain BPA.
Repeat steps 1-3 for other types of plastic bottles, from gallon jugs and water bottles to single-serve and reusable bottles.
