Challenges of Neonatal Nursing: Stress, Long Hours & Emotional Strain
Disadvantages of being a neonatal nurse:
* High stress environment. Neonatal nurses work in a high-stress environment, as they are responsible for the care of critically ill newborns. This stress can lead to burnout and compassion fatigue.
* Long hours. Neonatal nurses often work long hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays. This can make it difficult to maintain a work-life balance.
* Emotional toll. Neonatal nurses often develop close bonds with the babies they care for. When these babies die or experience complications, it can take an emotional toll on the nurse.
* Risk of injury. Neonatal nurses are at risk of injury from lifting and moving babies, as well as from being exposed to infectious diseases.
* Limited career advancement opportunities. Neonatal nursing is a specialized field, and there may be limited opportunities for career advancement.
