Identifying Baby Gerbils: Size, Weight, and Development
Size: Baby gerbils are much smaller than adult gerbils. A newborn gerbil may be only about 1 inch long.
Weight: Baby gerbils also weigh much less than adult gerbils. A newborn gerbil may weigh only about 0.1 ounces.
Fur: Baby gerbils have very soft fur compared to adult gerbils.
Eyes: Baby gerbils' eyes are closed; they do not open until they are about two weeks old.
Ears: Baby gerbils' ears are also much smaller than adult gerbils' ears.
Behavior: Baby gerbils are almost non-mobile after birth; only at around 16 days can they be weaned and separated from their parents.
