Identifying Baby Chipmunk Sex: A Simple Guide
To determine the sex of a baby chipmunk, you can gently check its underside.
1. Look for the presence of a belly button. Male chipmunks have a small, visible belly button, while female chipmunks do not.
2. Examine the genital area. Male chipmunks have a small, round opening near their anus, while female chipmunks have a longitudinal opening.
3. Male chipmunks often have a small bump or protrusion just below the belly button. This is the developing penis.
4. Female chipmunks may have a small, round protrusion just above the anus. This is the developing clitoris.
It's important to handle baby chipmunks carefully and avoid causing them any unnecessary stress or injury. If you're unsure of the sex of a chipmunk, it's best to consult with a wildlife rehabilitator or veterinarian for assistance.
