DIY Baby Saline Nasal Spray: A Simple Recipe for Congestion Relief
A congested baby is a miserable baby, both for himself or herself and the parents. A nasal saline solution made at home can help loosen mucus and clear airways so that the baby can eat and rest easier.-
What You'll Need
-
You will need one cup of filtered or distilled water, 1/2 tsp. of pickling salt, 1/4 tsp. of baking soda and one small bottle with lid.
Make The Solution
-
Sanitize the small bottle like you would when preparing a bottle for the baby. A milk storage bottle that came with a breast pump works perfectly. Pour one cup of warm filtered or distilled water into the bottle. Pour in pickled salt and baking soda. If you do not have pickled salt, use regular salt. Tighten the bottle and shake well. Do this until the the baking soda and salt are completely dissolved.
Administer Solution
-
Fill a medicine dropper with the solution. Place three drops in each of the baby's nostrils before he or she eats or sleeps. Do this as the baby is lying down. Have a warm, wet washcloth handy to clean the baby's face. When done, store the solution at room temperature and discard it after two days.
