DIY Pedialyte
Pedialyte is an electrolyte drink specifically designed for babies, toddlers and children who may be suffering from dehydration from vomiting or diarrhea caused by illness. This beverage can be made at home with a few simple ingredients.-
Benefits
-
Making DIY pedialyte at home is an inexpensive alternative to the store-bought brand. Another benefit is that most of these ingredients can be found in your cupboard so if your child is sick in the middle of the night, you can use these on-hand ingredients and not have to rush to the store.
Ingredients
-
Two quarts of water, one teaspoon baking soda, seven teaspoons sugar, one packet flavored, drink mix powder (unsweetened) and a half teaspoon of salt substitute are the ingredients listed in one recipe.
Considerations
-
Your DIY Pedialyte can be mixed up and frozen ahead of time for times when your child is sick. If your child has been vomiting or has had diarrhea, the DIY pedialyte will help replenish lost liquids in their body. It is always a good idea to call your pediatrician when your child is sick.
