Managing Baby Eczema: Keeping the Neck Dry & Moisturizing
Infant eczema is a skin condition that requires a doctor's consultation. In addition, there are a variety of at-home methods you can safely practice that will help limit flare-ups and the spread of eczema. Key among such treatment is keeping baby's skin dry and free from prolonged exposure to liquids. However, since eczema is characterized by dry, itchy skin, it is also important to keep baby's skin appropriately moisturized.Things You'll Need
- Bibs
- Washcloths
- Bathing supplies
- Moisturizer
Instructions
Make sure baby is not overheated and sweating. Dress baby in cotton clothing and check to make sure he is not too hot. Give your child a bath if she becomes overheated and sweaty.
Wipe baby's face gently after he nurses, drinks any liquids, or is drooling. Try to wipe the liquid away before it reaches his neck. Consider having baby wear a bib.
Change baby's shirt if it becomes wet from any liquid.
Give baby lukewarm, short baths. Use a gentle soap or skip the soap altogether.
Apply a moisturizer immediately after the bath to her neck and any affected area. This will retain moisture while protecting her from irritants like saliva.
