Restore Gut Health: How to Replenish Beneficial Bacteria
Good bacteria benefits the body in many ways, including helping to keep harmful bacteria in check and keep yeast levels at an acceptable level. Antibiotics, stress and illness may diminish levels of good bacteria in the body--if this occurs, you may have developed digestive problems or feel generally unwell. Replenishing the good bacteria and bringing your system back into balance may help.Things You'll Need
- Enteric-coated probiotic supplements
- Yogurt
Instructions
Take an enteric-coated probiotic supplement containing live beneficial bacteria everyday. It's important that the supplements are enteric-coated, according to Healing Daily, because the supplement needs to make it to the intestines where it will do the most good, and an enteric coating prevents the contents from being released in the stomach.
Add yogurt to your diet in addition to the probiotic supplement. The yogurt label should read "contains live, active cultures" for it to be beneficial.
Take extra supplements while on antibiotics and directly after. Sometimes antibiotics cannot be avoided, but you can still keep your system more balanced by increasing probiotics during and after taking antibiotics.
