Oat Flour Seitan Recipe: A Delicious Vegan Meat Substitute
Seitan is commonly used as a meat substitute in vegetarian diets and is sometimes called wheat meat. Seitan is actually the cooked form of the gluten formed when a wheat flour dough is kneaded and then rinsed with water, which removes the starch. Seitan is commonly simmered in a soy sauce to create a taste similar to beef. The product is used in stews and chili recipes as a replacement to meat. - Gluten flour
- Oat flour
- Whole wheat flour
- Salt
Instructions
Mix 2 cups gluten flour, 1 cup whole wheat flour and 1 cup oat flour with 2 tsp. salt ,according to a recipe at the website Cook, Eat, Share.
Add 2 cups of water to the dry ingredients and knead for about 10 minutes into a moist dough. Form the dough into a tube shape about 4 inches in diameter.
Cut the seitan dough into 1/2-inch-thick slices. Place the slices in simmering water, just below the boiling point, and cook for at least an hour.
