Preventing Carb Withdrawal: Symptoms, Causes & Relief
Many dieters lower or eliminate their carbohydrate intake. To adhere to a strict no carb diet, they avoid foods such as bread or grains, potatoes, rice and pasta. In the first 3 or 4 days, dieters can experience symptoms of carb withdrawals --- headaches, irritability, cravings for sweets or starches, as well as increased hunger and fatigue. By staying hydrated, consuming a lot of protein and taking a daily supplement of L-glutamine, you can help prevent and treat carb withdrawal.Things You'll Need
- L-Glutamine supplement
Instructions
Drink a lot of water. Keep your body hydrated by drinking eight 8-oz. glasses of water daily to prevent dehydration and fatigue.
Eat plenty of protein --- such as steak, chicken, eggs and cheese. Protein is essential for producing enzymes in your body to give you energy and to strengthen bones, muscles, skin and blood. Protein is good for weight loss for two reasons: 1) it satisfies your appetite; and 2) you do not need to eat a lot.
Take a daily supplement of L-glutamine. L-glutamine is an amino acid that contains the nutrients of carbohydrates without weight gain. Take 1000 milligrams of L-glutamine daily to eliminate carbohydrate cravings.
