Does unhealthy teeth cause you to have cold sores?

Cold sores are caused by the herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1), unhealthy teeth do not directly cause cold sores. While practicing good oral hygiene can help maintain overall health and well being, it does not prevent or contribute to the development of cold sores.
