DIY Toothpaste: A Guide to Homemade Oral Care
Preparing your own toothpaste allows you to save money, know exactly what is going into your mouth. and avoid the use of ingredients, such as fluoride, which you might not want to use. When making your own toothpaste, it's important to use ingredients that will perform the same tasks as commercial toothpaste. By using the right ingredients, you can prepare a homemade toothpaste that cleans your teeth, freshens your breath, and kills germs and bacteria.Things You'll Need
- 2 tbsp. coconut oil
- Bowl
- 2 tbsp. baking soda
- Plastic spoon
- 4 drops mint essential oil
- 1 pinch powdered stevia
- Glass jar with lid
Instructions
Place 2 tbsp. of coconut oil into a bowl to serve as the antifungal, antiseptic component of the toothpaste.
Add 2 tbsp. of baking soda for cleaning the teeth and freshening your breath. Stir the two ingredients together.
Place 4 drops of mint essential oil, such as spearmint or peppermint, in the bowl. Stir the essential oil into the other two ingredients.
Drop one pinch of powdered stevia into the toothpaste mixture to give it a sweeter taste. Stir the ingredients until mixed well.
Transfer the homemade toothpaste to a glass jar with a lid ,and store it at room temperature. Place a pea-sized amount on your toothbrush when ready to brush your teeth.
