Understanding Your Teeth: A Guide to Tooth Names & Types
The teeth in our mouths have specific names based on their location and function. Here are the names of the four different types of teeth, listed from front to back in each section of your mouth:
Incisors:
- Central incisors (2 per arch)
- Lateral incisors (2 per arch)
Canines:
- Cuspids (one on each side)
Premolars:
- First premolars (two per side)
- Second premolars (two per side)
Molars:
- First molars (two per side)
- Second molars (two per side)
- Third molars (wisdom teeth, not always present)
