Understanding Water Breaking: Symptoms & What to Do
There are a few ways to tell if your water has broken.
* You may feel a sudden gush of liquid from your vagina. This is the most common sign that your water has broken. The fluid may be clear, pale yellow, or slightly pink.
* Your underwear or pants may feel wet. This is another sign that your water has broken. The fluid may leak out slowly or it may come out all at once.
* You may feel a change in pressure in your abdomen or pelvis. This can feel like a tightening or a squeezing sensation. You may also feel a popping or bursting sensation.
* Your baby may move or kick more. This is because the fluid surrounding your baby is decreasing, which gives them more room to move.
* You may have contractions. Contractions are tightening of the muscles in your uterus. They can be a sign that your labor is starting or that your water has broken.
* You may feel a change in your vaginal discharge. Your discharge may become thinner and more watery. You may also notice some mucus or blood in your discharge.
If you think your water has broken, it is important to contact your doctor or midwife right away. They will be able to confirm whether or not your water has broken and will advise you on what to do next.
