Wisdom Teeth: Growth, Impact, and Removal

You do not "get" your wisdom teeth; they grow in naturally like any other teeth. Wisdom teeth are the third molars in the back of the mouth, and they usually appear between the ages of 17 and 25. In some people, wisdom teeth never grow in or may only partially emerge, while others may have wisdom teeth that become impacted, meaning they are stuck under the gum line. Wisdom teeth that become impacted can cause pain, swelling, and infection, and may need to be removed by a dentist.
