Dermatologist vs. Orthopedist: Who Treats Fungal Infections?
A dermatologist is a medical doctor who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of skin, hair, and nail conditions. Fungi can cause a variety of skin infections, including athlete's foot, ringworm, and yeast infections. Dermatologists need to be able to recognize and treat these infections.
Orthopedic specialists are medical doctors who specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of bone and joint conditions. Fungi do not typically cause bone or joint infections, so orthopedic specialists do not need to know as much about fungi as dermatologists.
