Understanding Blue Nose in COPD: Causes & Symptoms
A blue nose in a COPD patient is a sign of cyanosis, which is a bluish discoloration of the skin due to insufficient oxygen in the blood. In COPD, the airways become narrowed and inflamed, making it difficult for air to flow in and out of the lungs. This can lead to a decrease in the amount of oxygen in the blood, causing cyanosis. Additionally, COPD can cause the heart to work harder to pump blood through the narrowed airways, which can lead to an increase in pressure in the blood vessels in the lungs. This increased pressure can further reduce the amount of oxygen in the blood, leading to cyanosis.Gum Disease - Related Articles
