What does gum disease feel like?
Early gum disease (gingivitis)
* Gums that bleed easily when you brush or floss
* Red, swollen, or tender gums
* Gums that are receding from your teeth
* Bad breath
* A bad taste in your mouth
Advanced gum disease (periodontitis)
* All of the symptoms of gingivitis, plus:
* Gums that pull away from your teeth, creating pockets
* Pus between your gums and teeth
* Loose teeth
* Pain when you chew
* Sensitivity to hot or cold temperatures
* A change in the way your teeth fit together
* Jawbone loss
If you have any of these symptoms, it's important to see your dentist right away. Gum disease can be treated, but it's easier to treat in the early stages.
