Mucus Plug & Labor: What to Expect & When
There is no set amount of time between losing your mucous plug and going into labor. For some women, labor begins within a few hours or days, while for others it can take up to a week or two. However, losing your mucous plug is often seen as a sign that your body is preparing for labor and that it could start at any time.
Here are some things to keep in mind about losing your mucous plug:
* It is not a reliable sign that labor is about to start. Some women lose their mucous plug weeks before labor begins, while others don't lose it until they are already in labor.
* Losing your mucous plug can mean that your cervix is starting to dilate, which is a necessary step for labor to begin. However, dilation can also occur without losing your mucous plug.
* If you experience any other signs of labor, such as regular contractions, a bloody show, or your water breaking, it is important to contact your doctor or midwife immediately.
