How to Lengthen a Valve Holder Fitting
Valve holder fittings, or valve stem fittings, are stems that attach to the into a tire rim. The valve stem is where where compressed air nozzles are pressed in order to fill up air in the tire. Valve holder fittings come in a number of different sides. The easiest and most direct way to increase the length of a valve holder fitting is to remove the old valve holder and replace it with a new one. This can be done the easiest with the help of a tire changing machine.Things You'll Need
- Tire changing machine
- Valve stem remover
- Razor
- Needle-nose pliers
- New valve holder fitting
Instructions
Place the tire on top of the tire machine and tighten down the center nut to hold the tire and ruim in place.
Lift the bead breaker arm and place it next to the edge where the rim meets the rubber on the tire.
Insert the valve stem remover and turn it to the left to remove the valve stem, or valve core, and allow all the air to drain out.
Press the control pedal on the tire machine in order to break the seal.
Cut the old valve holder fitting with a razor and pull the rest of if out of the rim with the needle-nose pliers.
Slide the new valve holder fitting into the hole in the rim from the under side and pull it up and through until the grooved base seats itself tightly.
Place the air hose onto the new valve holder fitting and press the air pedal until the tire fills and forms a sealed bead on the rim.
Remove the tire from the tire changing machine.
