How to Remove Gauze From the Wisdom Teeth
For the majority of people wisdom teeth are not problematic and therefore don't need to be removed. However, for some the emergence of the teeth causes much pain as there isn't enough room at the back of the mouth. In such cases dental surgery is needed to remove them which causes much bleeding. A cotton gauze is normally used to plug the hole in the gum where the tooth was extracted in order to halt bleeding until the blood clots and the healing process begins.Things You'll Need
- Cotton gauze
- Salt
Instructions
Ensure the gauze has remained on the wound for at least 20 minutes after the extraction.
Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water prior to removing the gauze in order to avoid the spread of bacteria and infection in the wound.
Remove gauze gently, taking notice of any new bleeding.
Gently bite down on a piece of fresh gauze if bleeding reoccurs until the blood has soaked through the gauze. Carefully stuff the gauze into the wound. The time needed for blood to clot varies thus several pieces of gauze may have to be applied.
