Vasectomy vs. Circumcision: Understanding the Differences
A vasectomy and circumcision are two different surgical procedures that are performed on male genitalia.
A vasectomy is a surgical procedure that cuts or seals the vas deferens, the tubes that carry sperm from the testicles to the penis. This prevents sperm from being released during ejaculation, making the man sterile. A vasectomy is a permanent form of birth control.
Circumcision is a surgical procedure that removes the foreskin, the fold of skin that covers the head of the penis. Circumcision is often performed for religious or cultural reasons, but it can also be done to treat medical conditions such as phimosis (tightening of the foreskin) or balanitis (inflammation of the head of the penis).
