Virox 5 (Accelerated Hydrogen Peroxide®) wipes have a 2-year shelf life from the date of manufacture when stored per label conditions (room temperature, sealed container).

Critical Points

• Expiration Date Location: Printed on canister label (bottom or side) as "EXP YYYY-MM-DD" or "MFG YYYY-MM-DD" + 24 months.
• Post-Expiration Risk: Hydrogen peroxide degrades to water + oxygen. Active ingredient concentration drops below EPA-registered efficacy threshold. Pathogen kill claims (norovirus, TB, fungi, bacteria) are no longer validated.
• Visual Clues of Degradation: Wipes dry out, discolor (yellow/brown), emit off-odor, or canister swells (oxygen buildup). Do not use if any sign appears, even before date.
• Storage Compliance: Keep lid tightly closed. Avoid >30°C (86°F) or direct sunlight. Do not refrigerate.

Action Plan

1. Check date at receipt and before each shift.
2. Rotate stock: First In, First Out (FIFO).
3. Discard expired canisters per facility waste protocol (typically regular trash unless local regs differ).
4. Replace immediately—do not "stretch" supply.

Why It Matters

In healthcare, an ineffective wipe = failed terminal cleaning = potential HAI transmission. The cost of a new canister is negligible compared to a single C. diff or norovirus outbreak.
