Rectal Bleeding When Wiping: Causes & What to Do
Possible causes of blood on your butt when wiping but not on your undies:
- Hemorrhoids: Swollen veins in the rectum or anus can cause painless, bright red bleeding. Hemorrhoids can be caused by straining during bowel movements, pregnancy, or chronic constipation.
- Anal fissure: A small tear or crack in the skin around the anus can cause bright red bleeding after a bowel movement. Anal fissures can be caused by constipation, diarrhea, or anal intercourse.
- Proctitis: Inflammation of the rectum can cause bloody diarrhea, abdominal pain, and a feeling of fullness in the rectum. Proctitis can be caused by infections, inflammatory bowel disease, or radiation therapy.
- Diverticular disease: Small pouches or diverticula can develop in the colon or rectum. Diverticular disease can cause bleeding, abdominal pain, and constipation.
- Colorectal cancer: Bleeding from the rectum or anus can be a sign of colorectal cancer. Other symptoms of colorectal cancer can include abdominal pain, changes in bowel habits, and weight loss.
