PPO vs. HMO Dental Plans for Braces: Cost Comparison
Braces may be cheaper with a PPO dental plan.
PPO stands for Preferred Provider Organization. PPO plans offer more flexibility and choice than HMO plans, allowing patients to see any provider they choose. However, PPO plans typically have higher premiums and deductibles than HMO plans.
With a PPO plan, you can choose to see an in-network provider or an out-of-network provider. If you choose to see an in-network provider, you will pay a lower copay or coinsurance. If you choose to see an out-of-network provider, you will pay a higher copay or coinsurance, but you may be able to get reimbursed for some of the cost by your insurance company.
HMO stands for Health Maintenance Organization. HMO plans require patients to stay within a network of providers. HMO plans typically have lower premiums and deductibles than PPO plans.
With an HMO plan, you can only see providers who are part of the network. If you see a provider who is not part of the network, you will not be covered by your insurance.
If you are considering getting braces, you should compare the different dental plans that are available to you to see which one will save you the most money.
