Severe Bleeding First Aid: What to Do When Blood is Gushing

If an accident victim has a wound that is gushing dark red blood, it could be a sign of severe bleeding, and immediate first aid is crucial to stop the bleeding and stabilize the victim's condition:

1.Stay Calm and Assess the Situation:

- First, ensure your own safety before attempting to help the victim.

- Check the surroundings for any potential hazards that may compromise your safety.

2.Call for Emergency Medical Assistance:

- Dial 911 (or the appropriate emergency number) immediately.

3.Apply Direct Pressure:

- Use a clean cloth or a bandage to apply direct pressure on the bleeding wound.

- If the bleeding is profuse, use your hands to firmly press on the wound until medical help arrives.

- Avoid removing any objects stuck in the wound.

4.Maintain Pressure:

- Continue applying pressure until the bleeding stops or until professional medical help arrives.

- Elevating the injured body part may also help reduce blood flow to the area.

5.Prevent Hypothermia:

- Cover the victim with blankets or clothing to prevent hypothermia, especially in cold weather conditions.

6.Do Not Remove Impaled Objects:

- If there is an object impaled in the wound, do not attempt to remove it as this could worsen the situation.

7.Restrain the Injured Body Part:

- If possible, immobilize or support the injured body part to minimize movement and further bleeding.
