When to Avoid Direct Pressure for Bleeding Control: A Guide
Direct pressure should always be used to stop a wound from bleeding unless:
- The wound is on the neck or head and direct pressure could restrict breathing.
- The wound is caused by a foreign object that cannot be removed.
- The wound is bleeding heavily and direct pressure is not stopping the bleeding. In this case, a tourniquet may be used.
