Free Prosthetic Legs: Eligibility & How to Apply - 2024
Are you looking to get a new prosthetic leg because your old one is damaged, missing or doesn't fit you right anymore? If you can't afford to buy a new prosthetic limb from a medical company, there are several companies and charities that will give you a free prosthetic leg if you apply and explain your situation. You don't necessarily need to have financial hardship, but organizations prefer to give free limbs to people who can't afford new ones. Prosthetic limbs can cost thousands of dollars, especially the ones with robotic components.
Instructions
Contact the Amputee Coalition of America, who have directories of prosthetic providers and surgeons who specialize in prosthetics. Find a support group through this organization. They have a whole list of organizations that help people financially to get new prosthetic limbs.
Download an application from the charity foundation of your choice, such as Limbs for Life, Limbs of Love, Angels with Limbs, or the National Amputation Foundation. You must be a U.S. citizen and have no felonies.
Print the application and fill it out. You will need to supply medical history, photos, identification, employment info, and a description of your current financial and physical situation to explain why you need a free prosthetic leg. Some charities do not require this much information.
Mail the completed form to the foundation and wait to hear from them.
