Were viruses the first life form?
The answer is: no
Viruses can only survive inside a living organism and have an extremely simple structure consisting of nucleic acids enclosed within a protein coat, meaning that on their own they do not survive in harsh surroundings such as outer space where life was most likely to have originated; and viruses have little resemblance to any present-day living cells.
