The Black Death was a bubonic plague pandemic that swept across Eurasia and Africa in the 14th century, killing an estimated 75 to 200 million people. The disease is thought to have originated in Central Asia and was spread along trade routes by infected fleas carried by rodents. The plague reached Europe in 1347 and quickly spread throughout the continent, causing widespread devastation. It also reached North Africa and the Middle East.
