T4 Bacteriophage: Infection, Lytic Cycle & Classification

Bacteriophage T4 infects bacteria, where it is an example of a virulent phage causing cell lysis through the lytic cycle, with release of up to several hundred new virions from a single host cell. It is classified as a Group A1 podovirus by the Baltimore classification system.
