How to Determine Measles Symptoms
Left untreated, measles can be deadly. Fortunately, with a trained eye, the symptoms of the virus are relatively easy to spot. This guide will explain how to determine measles symptoms.Things You'll Need
- Thermometer
Instructions
Determine if there has been a measles exposure. Typically, measles symptoms will develop from 10 to 12 days after exposure to the virus.
Be on the lookout for the onset of symptoms. Symptoms may include fever, dry cough, runny nose, tiny red spots with bluish-white centers inside the mouth and/or skin rash.
Check for fever. Measles symptoms are often accompanied by a persistent low-grade fever.
Watch for the appearance of a red blotchy rash after the onset of fever. This normally occurs behind the ears, around the hairline and along the outside of the mouth. It will gradually spread downward, eventually covering the legs and feet. The fever may increase in severity at this point.
If you are experiencing any of the symptoms of measles, see your doctor immediately. Your doctor can confirm whether or not you are infected by a visual examination, or he may choose to perform a blood test.
