Duoderm Dressing Change: A Step-by-Step Guide
Colloid type dressings, such as DuoDERM brand, are commonly used on skin ulcers, superficial wounds and slow-healing wounds. The dressing comes packaged in sheets and you can buy them from your local drugstore. Change dressings about every three days or as directed by a physician.Things You'll Need
- Protective gloves
- Antibacterial soap
- Hydrogen peroxide (3%)
- Antibiotic ointment
- Scissors
- Tape
Instructions
Put on protective gloves before starting to change the dressing.
Clean the wound site with either hydrogen peroxide or antibacterial soap, then dry the area.
Apply antibiotic ointment to the wound, if your doctor recommends, leaving the surrounding area clear.
Cut the dressing about one-half to one inch over the border of the wound.
Peel the adhesive backing off the DuoDERM dressing and apply to the wound. You also can use tape to further secure the dressing.
