Zinc Oxide for Scalp Mite Treatment: A Natural Approach
Mites are a parasitic insect that live on the skin of humans and animals; some, such as scabies, are too small to be seen. Mites in the scalp can be itchy -- as well as embarrassing. There are ways to treat them using chemicals, but some more natural products may be tried as well. Zinc oxide is used as an ingredient in many anti-itch ointments and powders, and according to the Entomological Society of Washington, it has been effective at repelling mites on human skin.
Instructions
Wash the scalp thoroughly before treatment.
Treat the scalp with zinc oxide ointment. Squeeze out a small drop of zinc oxide onto your finger. Rub the ointment into the itching parts of your scalp.
Treat the scalp with a powder containing zinc oxide, such as Gold Bond Medicated Body Powder. Shake some powder onto your hand and rub it into the scalp. Repeat the application up to 4 times per day.
Continue the application, until the itching goes away. If it does not go away after several days, consult a dermatologist.
