Ringworm: Causes, Symptoms, and Treatment
Wigworm, also known as ringworm, is a fungal infection on the surface area of skin and presents as an itchy, red rash. The shape of a ringworm infection is a circular ring surrounding healthy skin in the middle. Ringworm gets its name from the shape of the infection, not the presence of an actual worm. Signs of ringworm are the characteristic raised red ring around normal looking skin. The skin will also itch incessantly. Ringworm may appear in multiple areas at once.
Instructions
See your doctor if ringworm is widespread or does not clear up with the application of over-the-counter anti-fungal creams.
Apply a prescription anti-fungal topical medication such as Lotrimin, Tinactin or Onistat-Derm to the affected areas of the body.
Begin anti-fungal medication therapy by taking prescription pills such as Sporanox, Lamisil and Diflucan, as directed by your doctor.
